PERSONALITY
Despite her traumatic upbringing - or maybe even because of it (?) - Aella grew into a friendly, supportive, and when needed even protective person.
She openly welcomes everyone around to her circle and quickly becomes attached to them.
This - paired with her Asari appearance - occasionally leads to people misinterpreting her kindness as romantic interest, which however could not be further from the truth.
Her lack of sufficient bonding and socialisation during her crucial development phase left her in a somewhat childlike state, and while she possesses a fine intellect and surprising wisdom for her age, she is often perceived as the eccentric outsider who randomly hugs everyone around, or who ‘brings home creepy alien pets’...
BACKGROUND
Aella, or ExC-ARv1 #17 was genetically assembled and spliced as one of many assets for a Cerberus research project dealing with understanding and aspiring to - one day - implant innate non-human abilities into human subjects.
As a result of that Aella never got to know her origins: Neither the Asari whose likeness had become the blank sheet of the entire project, nor the DNA sample of her alien second parent.
Of 26 identical ARv1’s, Aella was one of only three promising candidates to develop without debilitating mental or physiological deficiencies; her innate blindness being the only prominent aspect hinting at the (at that point) still experimental nature of the project. However, her purpose did not require eyesight, so she and her similarly semi-useful ‘siblings’ were kept and utilised.
The next years of her life she grew up as a lab rat by every definition, with the scientists cultivating, training and trying to increase her so-called ‘ESP’. At that point Aella had not yet become as strong as Cerberus hoped, but her lethargic, unquestioning compliance justified the continuation of the project among other local operations.
Aella gained her first taste of actual freedom when she was around nine years old, and the research facility that had been her ‘home’ was cleared out by a Turian away team following the leads of missing personnel.
Uncertain of what to do, yet unable to leave behind or harm an innocent child, Lieutenant Eldritch, the away team’s medic decided to take care of her until her actual family would come forward to rehome her. Only that there was no one [alive] to claim her, so he eventually formally adopted her, named her Aella and raised her as his own child.
Growing up however proved… Difficult… To the child. Throughout the following weeks and months the toll the mental and emotional neglect and the isolation had taken on her became apparent: At first she was still uncertain of whether or not she had been kidnapped, yet paradoxically blindly accepted whatever circumstances were thrown at her, despite life outside of a confined laboratory being utterly alien to her.
Integrating her into her new society proved harder than expected, and she was roughly a couple of years behind the expected norm of her age group, yet over the next years, and with the help of her new father the once lethargic and erratic Aella slowly managed to find a sufficient new role for herself.
(Among other, less practical skills ) She proved to possess a talent with- and understanding for tech, and decided to make it her field of contribution.
After basic training she joined the Engineering Corps. The first few years consisted of travelling fourth and back, performing minor tasks on various planets and colonies, yet eventually she received her first ‘fix’ assignment aboard the Valiant as specialist for xeno-technology and - ironically - interfacing.
APPEARANCE
Aella is a - for her age - relatively tall, slender and slightly androgynous looking Asari in her maiden stage. Her colouring is a medium-blue, with slightly darker violet freckles on her cranium, cheeks and limbs, and on her forehead and cheeks she wears the white face paint of her colony.
Attached to her head (well, physiologically plugged in…) are two sets of thin artificial echo-pulse ‘antennae’ helping her to see even without eyes. They stand out on her in particular due to being designed with Turian physiology/head fringes in mind, yet Aella’s head being considerably smaller.
With her clothing style Aella favours comfort over aesthetics. (Not that she would know much about aesthetics to begin with..) She usually wears soft, elastic tank tops, utility pants with as many pockets as physically possible, heavy military boots and protective utility gloves with one pulse device attached to each glove to allow her a more detailed ‘view’ on whatever she is working on.

OOC
Heya everyone! Thanks for checking out this Carrd and the OOC section in particular!
I’m CJ, of age, and this is my favourite Carrd on the Citadel.
I do not own Mass Effect, and of it’s species, locations or story arcs. This is a non-commercial fun RP project I do for personal enjoyment. Nothing more.
I do however own the character of Aella, her companions Gabby and Galan, as well as roughly 50% of the Valiant’s crew. All art used is mine. I do not mind you using it yourself, but please do not claim it as yours. It's not.
Aella originally started as a Half-life OC and slowly seeped through various universes. If you’re interested in her original version, be sure to check out @AellaEldritch.
I am semi-selective as in, that I do not follow characters from universes I am utterly unfamiliar with. (It's nothing personal, I just try to avoid making mistakes.)
I’ll however gladly interact with anyone from the ME universe, as well as familiar Sci-Fi settings [Star Trek, B5, anything cyberpunk… You name it.]
I usually prefer starting RPs by responding to open starters or via liking/posting starter calls, but I am also down to plot things.
My DMs are open for plotting, and plotting alone. No DM-RP. Under no circumstances.
I’m over 18 and generally cool with darker stuff. I will however not write any smut with Aella.
Shipping is fine with me as long as the characters have chemistry and a logical development to galvanise them.
